Rajanganaya is a ancient region wich 2000 years old. It's situated in the Tank kingdom that very important things of the sinhala culture has deposited . Before the arrival of prince Vijaya they had lived 4 tribal groups in Sri Lanka , namely yakka , Deva , Naga and Raksha.Amoung these tribal groups , main settlements and commercial city of the yakka , had build related to the Asela Pabbatha of Rajanganaya region.
According to ancient falk tales left band of the Kalaoya was known as Giriba Rata and right band was Angamuwa rata. Maharapi Off the Rajanganaya tank way built by crossing Kalaoya and Kaadigala had joing to the built tank bund. It was a creation of king wasamba. According to history prince Thissa the son of the king wasamba had built the '' Maha Mangala Vihara '' on the top of the kaadigala to be memorise his beloved mother. In adition that Anula pabbatha vihara , Asela stupa and vihara was built relating to Angamuwa region , for the memorise of his mother.
Further more , according to the falk tales prince Saliya , the son of the king Dutugemunu had sought in a care of a kaadigala with Ashoka mala .
Angamuwa the adjoining area to the Rajanganaya was a developed city in the in the ancient kings time. In ancient time it was known as kaaladeegavapa nagara. Mahanaga had built the Angamuwa tank with help of Ahala minister . Asela stupa was built on the top of the Ahala pawatha or the Asela rock . Now a days this rock is name as Andigala but it's a miss understand by Mr.Bell. It isn't a Adigala it's a Asela rock.
There are rare ancient ruines on the top of this rock. Specialy there is a map amoung these ruines.
It's belived that this map is belong to the 4-5 centuries . It means this map had drawn before the Tolami and it's very compleated map than the Tolami's map . This map had created by Digging natural roac and this another type of maps can't be found anywhere in Sri Lanka and there is important stone carving too . This carving is very similar to the squlpture of man and the hourse's head in Isurumuniya archialogist. Ven.Ellawala Medhananda thero said that this carving diciped the image of Awalokitheshwara buddha.
When we abserve the environment on the top of the Asela rock . It can be seen greenish forests and the paddi fields up to the oasis , and lunuoya is near flow slowly this rock. The Angamuwa tank wich is built by crossing Lunuoya is in the East of the rock and Rajanganaya tank is in it's suthern end . It makes this natural beauty very atraction . The servise do for the future genaration is to protect we can these national heritages.
